James Cole

James joined Providence Group Capital in 2020. He is a native North Carolinian and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Business Administration. He received is Masters in Real Estate Development from M.I.T.

James has extensive experience in the ownership, development, construction and management of real estate. His real estate career started in 1991 as asset manager for a portfolio of $250 million of commercial properties and transitioned to developing for sale multifamily properties in 1997. Focusing on infill communities in Charlotte, his firm created almost 300 for-sale multifamily homes in six different communities. From 2004 until early 2010, James served as the founder and President of Westwood, a luxury homebuilding firm that developed, designed and renovated homes for investors and homeowners. During his tenure, Westwood built twenty two distinct homes worth in excess of $20 million. In 2011, he started BPA Capital Fund, an investment vehicle established to opportunistically purchase and redevelop properties across all asset classes, including the development of Helix South End, a $10 million townhouse community in Charlotte, NC. Continuing to focus on development and investment, he co-founded Outbox Self Storage in 2015. He has experience in troubled asset analysis, restructuring and disposition from a five year tenure at ISC Realty Corporation and a background in taxation from three years at Arthur Andersen and Co.

Duncan Lewison


Duncan Lewison joined The Providence Group in 2011, bringing more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience with a strong emphasis on finance and investment strategy. Originally from Lancashire, England, he relocated to the United States in 1990 and has since built a distinguished career across multiple facets of the industry.

Prior to joining The Providence Group, Duncan served as Chief Financial Officer for American Asset Corporation for over a decade, where he played a key leadership role in overseeing financial operations and guiding strategic growth initiatives.

Duncan’s expertise spans financial analysis, asset management and disposition, loan origination, business valuation, and complex transaction structuring. His depth of experience and analytical approach provide clients with valuable insight and strategic guidance across a wide range of real estate investments and financial decisions.

J.Q. Freeman


J.Q. Freeman is a Partner with Providence Group Capital, bringing more than 15 years of commercial real estate development and brokerage experience. He joined The Providence Group in 2016 after working with MPV Properties and its predecessor companies.

A Charlotte native, J.Q. earned his Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from Sewanee: The University of the South. His experience spans a wide range of disciplines, including development, site selection, land assemblage, tenant representation, landlord leasing, and multi-market rollout programs.

J.Q. has been involved in the development of commercial projects across numerous markets, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Illinois, California, and British Columbia. His deep market knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the development process enable him to deliver strategic insight and meaningful value to clients and investment partners.

Eric Nichols


Eric Nichols is a Partner with Providence Group Capital, bringing more than 30 years of commercial real estate development and brokerage experience. He joined The Providence Group in 2016 following 12 years with MPV Properties and a decade with Core Properties.

A Charlotte native and graduate of the College of Charleston, Eric has built a well-rounded career spanning development, landlord leasing, tenant representation, and national retail rollout programs. His experience includes both ground-up development and complex brokerage transactions, providing clients and investors with a comprehensive perspective across all phases of a project.

Eric has been involved in commercial real estate projects and transactions across a broad geographic footprint, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and British Columbia. His depth of experience across multiple markets and disciplines allows him to deliver strategic insight and value-driven results for his clients and investment partners.
